Muhtadi International Drumming Festival and Parkinson Canada are partnering in pursuit of a common vision: a better life with a brighter future for Canadians living with Parkinson's today, a world without Parkinson's tomorrow.

The cause is an important one for all Canadians living with Parkinson's, but takes on a special meaning for friends and supporters of the Muhtadi International Drumming Festival.

Muhtadi is facing the challenge of Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is having an ongoing impact on his family. His mother and an older brother both had Parkinson’s, and died from complications related to the disease.

Muhtadi has received numerous awards and commendations from communities in and around the GTA for his contributions to the artistic community and for work with at-risk youth.

Most significantly, he is well-known as the founder and artistic director of the highly successful two-day annual Muhtadi International Drumming Festival, which celebrates the drum, its universality as an art form, and its presence in all cultures. The festival is now in its 18th year and features drumming groups of all ages and skills that display the diverse cultural traditions and drumming styles from all over the world.

The Toronto drumming community is coming out to support Muhtadi with a day of fun for the whole family, delicious food, and awe-inspiring drumming! Bring your drum (or use one of ours) and join us as we pay a drumming tribute to Muhtadi.

Your support helps to make a difference, for Muhtadi and all Canadians living with Parkinson's. Proceeds from this event will support both the Drumming Festival and Parkinson Canada whose efforts focus on support services, education, advocacy and research toward a cure.

Please note: in addition to registered drummers, we are also looking for volunteer support. If you are interested in helping, please contact events@parkinson.ca.

We are grateful to our hosts at Daniels Spectrum for the opportunity to help these two important organizations.
