New Parkinson’s Treatment Options: DuodopaŽ & Deep Brain Stimulation
Key note speakers: Dr. Alfonso Fasano and members of his team from Toronto Western Hospital

DuodopaŽ is a new gel formulation of levodopa designed for people with more advanced Parkinson’s with the goal of even delivery of medication throughout the day, potentially increasing on--time benefit and decreasing side-effects.

Deep Brain Stimulation is an established surgical option used to treat Parkinson’s.  It may help reduce the amount of medication and improve symptom management.  New selection criteria, including earlier placement, may open this option to more people.

Dr. Alfonso Fasano is the Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto.  In 2013 he joined the Movement Disorder Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital, where he is currently responsible of for the surgical program for movement disorders.  Dr. Fasano’s academic interests are in the  areas of advanced management of movement disorders, particularly deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor.
