About Parkinson Canada Superwalk
Join us as part of a movement of Canadians standing up to Parkinson's: No Matter What.
For more than 30 years participants from across the country have come together to show one another that they are not alone. Now, guided by the relentless perseverance of people living with Parkinson's standing up to their diagnosis more than 10,000 participants in 80 communities stand together on SuperWalk weekend.
Parkinson Canada SuperWalk takes place each September. Since 1990 walkers like you have raised more than $38 Million to support a better life today for Canadians living with Parkinson's, a world without Parkinson's tomorrow.
Your efforts fuel nationwide and local support, advocacy and the Parkinson Canada Research Program.
What is Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease was first described by Dr. James Parkinson in 1817 in his Essay on the Shaking Palsy. Parkinson's is a progressive, degenerative brain disorder. Movement is normally controlled by dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson's appear. Parkinson's disease is not just a movement disorder. It is also characterized by a number of non-motor symptoms including depression and anxiety.
More than 25 people a day in Canada are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and by 2031 this number is projected to be 51 people a day!

Where could I find more detailed information about a specific walk location?
We try to provide as much information as possible on each of our walk sites on their location details page. If your question isn't listed, please feel free to give me a call (800-565-3000 ext. 3392) and I'll do my best to find an answer for you!
What does being a SuperStar Walker mean?
SuperStar Walkers are fundraisers who go above and beyond! To be a part of this exclusive fundraising club, participants each raise more than $1,000. They're recognized on walk day with a commemorative hat and pin, and deserve to be acknowledged throughout the year for making a true impact on behalf of Canadians living with Parkinson's. Last year, more than 420 participants qualified as SuperStars. This year, we're hoping to grow the SuperStar club to 500 members - which would mean an extra $80,000! Learn more about SuperStar walkers and SuperStar Supreme ($2,500) walkers on our fundraiser recognition page.
If I registered last year, do I need to register again this year?
Our online fundraising system resets every year, and we need to know who to expect on walk weekend year-over-year, so yes. The good news is, if you've participated before the registration process is very straightforward, and your donors will be tracked for the new year's event. After choosing your walk location and walker type (individual, team captain or team member), be sure to choose the returning walker option and use your username and password to reactivate your account. If you don't remember one or the other, I'm happy to help!
Where can I sign up to volunteer for SuperWalk?
Our volunteer needs vary by community, and so does the process for getting involved. You can learn more about our volunteer roles online, but the easiest way to get involved is to let us know you're interested. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call me, and we'll share your info with the appropriate local walk contact.
When do I get my SuperWalk donation receipt?
If you donated online, you should receive your tax receipt right away by email. Please check your donation confirmation message for an attachment. Cash and cheque receipts take a little while longer to process. Before the walk, expect to recieve a receipt within 2-4 weeks of your donation. If your donation was submitted on walk weekend, it is tracked with all the pledge forms from across Canada. We try to issue receipts as quick as possible, but because of the high volume it sometimes takes into the New Year. If I can help tracking down a missing receipt for either an online or cash or cheque gift, please let me know.
How do I reset my password?
You can reset your password by providing your username and email address on this page. Or, you can phone or email me and I'll be happy to help.
Are pets allowed?
Most of the time, yes. But, the rules at some of our venues differ. It's a good idea to check your location details page or connect with us before the walk to make sure.
How much do I need to raise to get a T-Shirt and/or is there a registration fee?
There is no registration fee for Parkinson Canada SuperWalk. We succeed because our committed participants ask their friends, family and colleagues for support. Because t-shirts and other event day items carry a cost, we encourage a $50 fundraising minimum.
How and where do I submit my cash and other SuperWalk donations?
Walkers can bring cash and cheques with them, along with a pledge form containing complete donor information, to their local walk on walk weekend. We encourage you to bring one cheque to cover all cash gifts. If you'd like to honour your pledges before the walk - or if you're a donor looking to support a walker - you can mail a pledge form and a cheque to Attn: SuperWalk at: Parkinson Canada, 316-4211 Yonge St., Toronto, ON, M2P 2A9
When is the last date to make SuperWalk donations?
You can donate to Parkinson Canada SuperWalk until December 31. The website does close for a short period at year end, re-opening on the following year's launch date. The deadline for calculation of top fundraisers, and for draws, prizing and recognition items is September 30.
