Brenda Kilarski - Local Walk Coordinator

Brenda has been involved at all point of the volunteer spectrum. Being diagnosed in 2008 only 6 months after retiring Brenda got involved almost immediately.

After participating in SuperWalk Saskatoon in 2009, she went back to Regina and started a SuperWalk in the queen city in 2010. Brenda was chief organizer with the help of Rick, her husband of 40 years for the first 2 years in Regina, SK. She was involved in everything from soup to nuts. Read more

Lenore Laverty - Local Walk Coordinator

"After a family member was diagnosed with Parkinson's, I co-chaired Morden, Manitoba’s first SuperWalk in 2003. Now, the event is part of my life and part of our community.

Parkinson Manitoba does its part and I take care of local details booking the facility, getting an event permit, contacting local businesses to sponsor breakfast and water, distributing posters and registration forms in the surrounding area, contacting volunteers for Walk day and putting up signs to mark the route." Dhun Ward - Office Support Volunteer

After spending her entire career as an executive assistant in the corporate world, Dhun Ward was looking to do something meaningful with her time after she retired. Living close by, knowing someone employed there, and having some friends with Parkinson's, made Parkinson Canada the ideal non-profit to volunteer with.

Dhun comes in weekly to help out with administrative work, and is a valuable member of the SuperWalk team. A year long process, she helps out both pre and post walk. In the months leading up to this year's SuperWalk, she was busy on the phones contacting former walkers and donors and sending out materials to walk organizers. Read more

Yvonne Siegel - Office Support Volunteer

Yvonne Siegel was looking for a change. After spending years working in graphic and web design, she was eager to learn new skills and delve into the non-profit industry. Located close to her home, and actively seeking volunteers, Parkinson Canada proved to be the perfect place to start. Yvonne reached out to the Toronto office looking to assist in processing a major influx of pledge forms and donations following a busy SuperWalk season.

Yvonne explains that the knowledge and experience gained during her time with Parkinson Canada has far exceeded her expectations:

"I have learned so much at Parkinson Canada. Previously I was under the misconception that SuperWalk is one weekend what I realize now is that it's a year-round operation." Read more

Alana Slike - Event Day Volunteer

Alana is one of hundreds youth volunteers who take part in SuperWalk across the country, many of whom use the event as a way to fulfill community hours programs while giving back.

"This will be my fourth year volunteering at Parkinson Canada SuperWalk in Winnipeg. In 2013 and 2014, I helped with the SuperWalks held in Winnipeg and in Gimli, Manitoba.

In the past, I've helped with the event setup before the walk as well as registration on walk day. However, last year I was asked if I could help by organizing and contacting the mascots for the event in addition to helping with set up the night before. The mascots were a lot of fun and joined in the exercise warm-up, posed for photos, and mingled with the walkers before the walk began and even stayed after the walkers returned from the course."
