pei-pedalling

In June of 2017 The PEI Pedalling Parkies, Dan Steele & Natasha McCarthy (both individuals who are living with Parkinson's Disease) will be riding the Confederation trail across PEI to raise awareness about & funds for Parkinson's Disease. The ride will start in Tignish and end in Elmira, 5 days and 273 KM. The ride weather pending will take place starting Tuesday June 6, ending Saturday June 10th. This also gives a buffer day that if delays occur we have Sunday to add to the trip. If the forecast is showing poor weather with a lot of rain the ride will be postponed one week to June 13-17.

We are hoping to grow a team of bikers for this event. You can join us for a leg of the trip, a full day or the entire trip, that's up to you, but the more the merrier! Read more about the ride below. We are also looking for people that would like to volunteer, in particular we will require 2 drivers to travel to the starting and end point of each day ...with supplies etc... If you're interested in volunteering or pedaling please contact either Natasha at (902) 393-9891 or nmccarro@Hotmail.com or Dan Steele at dan_steele_pei@Hotmail.com. Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disease. Movement is normally controlled by dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson's appear. It is suggested that by the time a diagnosis occurs over 50% of these cells have already died. PD affects not only movement but also has many non motor symptoms such as loss of sense of smell, cognitive changes, depression etc...
