Welcome to My Personal Page
This September I will join 14,000 Canadians who take part Parkinson SuperWalk. Together we raise funds for education and support services, not only for people with Parkinson's, but also for their caregivers and family members too in communities across Canada. This annual event also raises funds for research into the causes of Parkinson's, better treatments and one day, a cure.
About 3 months after my diagnosis in June of 2012, I became a member of the Parkinson's Society of Eastern Ontario (PSEO). I also started attending the Young Onset support group meetings for people with Parkinson's. These meetings are just a small part of what the Parkinson's Society does for the community. In my case, the support meetings allowed me to quickly learn (from others) about the disease, its symptoms, medication, the importance of exercise and lifestyle impacts. We also made use of the PSEO Newly Diagnosed Workshops wherein my immediate and extended family could learn more about the disease in a friendly and professional environment. Importantly, a good portion of the money raised goes towards finding a cure and improving therapies.
In the spring of 2016, I became a member of the Advisory Council for the Parkinson's Canada Easten Ontario region. I also was appointed to Parkison's Canada Finance and Audit Committee. As a person with Parkinson's and as a CPA Chartered Accountant I am proud to be part of this successful organization.
So, when you walk with me, or sponsor me, you bring us closer to this year's goal of $2 million. Every dollar means new hope.
