Support Christena Morrell for the Parkinson SuperWalk
Friends and family – last year the Golden Spreaders raised more than $8,000. This year, we want to do more. Please help us make a difference. Here's how:
My close friends and family know that for almost 30 years, we have watched our father/husband/Poppa/friend Ken Stewart live with Parkinson’s.
Dad/Ken doesn’t really talk about it much at all. I suppose we all deal the cards life deals us in different ways. His way is to just get on with living to the best of his ability. I can count on one hand the number of times in my life that I have heard him complain and still have fingers left over.
From when he was first diagnosed up until today, there have been tremendous advances in Parkinson’s treatment and those advances have made a huge difference. Dad/Ken has electrodes in his brain, and battery packs in his chest, and each day consumes a cocktail of drugs to keep him moving. He uses a cane, a walker, and a wheelchair, depending on anything from time of day to what the weather is like. That he gets around as well as he does is a testament to modern science, his stubbornness, and what I can only assume are the hearty Western Ontario genes with which he is blessed. It’s also a testament to his primary caregiver, our mum Susan, who is a rock.
Each year, the Parkinson Superwalk raises money for support services, education, advocacy and research. These four things sound so bland when you read the words, but I have seen all of them in action and I can assure you, they make a difference.
Please sponsor our team – The Golden Spreaders, as we walk on September 9, 2017.
