Welcome to My Personal Page
On Saturday, September 8th, 2018 I will join more than 14,000 Canadians who will take part in the Parkinson SuperWalk. Together we raise funds for education and support services, not only for people with Parkinson's, but also for their caregivers and family members in communities across Canada. This annual event also raises funds for research into the causes of Parkinson's, better treatments and one day, a cure.
This is a special Superwalk for me ... I have enjoyed more than 3 years of quality living with the benefit of a new medical technique, Duodopa. My Parkinson's Disease had degenerated to the stage that I needed pills every 2 hours with decreasing effects, using a wheelchair, walking with a walker and giving up on many activities. Duodopa is a gel containing the necessary medication (levadopa/carbidopa) which is administered directly into the small intestine by measured doses through a tube inserted into the abdomen. It is delivered continuously (every 35 seconds) throughout the day. It has been life-changing for me allowing me more mobility, and the energy and desire to be more involved in life again. I was the first patient in Ottawa to receive the Duodopa pump. There are now at least 14 recipients in this area - over 200 Canada wide. This is evidence of your dollars at work for Parkinson's Disease.
Last year I was thrilled to have the support of many friends and relatives who donated $5,315 for Parkinson Superwalk for awareness, research for a cure, education and support. My new pump continues to give me a new lease on life. When you sponsor me, you bring us closer to this year's goal of $3 million. Every dollar means new hope. Thank you!
