Welcome to Dianne's Superwalk Page!!
Most of you already know this, but for those of you who don't, I was diagnosed with Parkinsons's Disease in the fall of 2013. Parkinson's runs in my family, so this walk is important to me for many reasons. My mom's father had Parkinsons, as do several of her cousins. I would like to se a cure, not so much for me, but for my children who may be at risk of developing this disease.
This will be my fifth walk and I hope that I do as well as I did last year! I raised over $2500 last year, so lets see how it goes. I have a special fundraiser this year - I'll let you know what it is soon! My surprise is that I WROTE A SHORT STORY!! It's almost ready to be published, so stay tuned. I'll let you know when it's available. I'm hopng to publish my short story by the middle of June. Unil then, here's an exerpt:
"I think it’s over. There haven’t been any changes in three days and I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt in my life.
There are only a few people I can tell and I don’t know how I’m going to hide what’s happened to me. If people find out, I’ll probably end up in a lab somewhere. Or worse.
I won’t let that happen.
That sounds like the opening to a very cliche movie, but it’s my life. It’s been six months since I had the procedure and if If things stay the way they are, I will be like a superhero. I have abilities. This is so cool, a dream come true for a science fiction geek like me, but I have no idea how to handle this. Do I get a costume and go around town at night fighting crime? Do I hide my abilities and hope nobody finds out and they go away? Do I just try to live a normal life and only use my abilities in situations like the car accident? My brain hurts thinking about all the possibilities.
My story should be reasy for release next week! Soon I'll let you know what the title is - Stay tuned!!!!!
The title of my short story is Genes: The Story of an Accidental Superhero.
Stay tuned for the release of the actual story next week!!!
You can find my story on Kobo - just search for my name or the title of the book. It's $12 and I get $8.40 of that which will go directly to this campaign! Thanks. You can also get a paperback version. Just let me know and I'll add you to my list and make a bulk order. The price of the paperback will be $12 and I'll get $8.04 of that.
In September my family and I will join 14,000 Canadians who take part in the Parkinson SuperWalk. Together we raise funds for education and support services, not only for people with Parkinson's, but also for their caregivers and family members too in communities across Canada. This annual event also raises funds for research into the causes of Parkinson's, better treatments and one day, a cure. Thank you!
