New Directions for 2020: A message from our CEO,
Dr. Karen Lee

I arrived at Parkinson Canada on April 1 in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The coronavirus has created a great deal of uncertainty.

In taking on the leadership role of CEO earlier this year, I want to assure you that Parkinson Canada will continue to be there for those families living with Parkinson’s disease until we find a cure.

My background as a researcher means that I’m driven to pursue answers to often difficult or complex questions. My late grandfather lived with Parkinson’s. Over the years, I witnessed how he and others living with the disease overcame changes and challenges, and how friends and family rallied to support them.

That’s why I’m inspired by your resilience and resourcefulness as both someone touched by Parkinson’s, as well as a caring member of our community. I’ve come to learn quickly that this perseverance is a hallmark of the Parkinson Community. One that fits so well with our SuperWalk’s theme: No Matter What.

I’m delighted to have this tremendous opportunity to lead Parkinson Canada on your behalf. And it’s only thanks to supporters like you over the past 55 years that we’ve been able to transform the lives of fellow Canadians living with Parkinson’s. So thank you very much. I really do appreciate your generous support.

Until we can meet at walks and in communities like yours across Canada, I look forward to at least getting to know you virtually.

Thanks to your generosity and loyalty, Parkinson Canada will continue to provide not just resources and information, but also comfort and support. Along with all of our staff and volunteers, I’m committed to being there for the growing number of Canadians who rely on us for relevant, credible information, and so much more.
