Announcing Your Opening Ceremony Host
Larry Gifford hosts the podcast "When Life Gives You Parkinson’s" which details his journey with the disease as a guy in his mid-40’s with a family and a career. He was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease in August 2017. The show was named "Best Podcast" by RTDNA West Region in 2020 and listed on the "Best of 2018" playlist by Apple Podcasts.
He's also your host for the 2020 National Opening Ceremony hosted Live on Facebook (and on SuperWalk.ca) on Saturday, September 12 at 11AM ET.
"I am thrilled to be working with the Parkinson Canada team on my podcast, and as part of the walk. It is extremely important that Canadians have equity of access to information, movement disorder specialists, informed GPs, early diagnosis, medications, treatments, and wellness activities. Parkinson Canada works tirelessly to get us closer to that reality each day. By partnering with the podcast they are also raising the voices of people with Parkinson’s. The more we tell our stories, the more it drives awareness of PD, which is need for funding research and ultimately finding a way to stop PD in its tracks. No matter what. That's why I walk.
That No Matter What message is so resonant with me. When you see me on September 12, you'll see me in my I'm dedicated to ending Parkinson's: No Matter What shirt (don't forget, you can download artwork to create your own)! It's a message that states with clarity that we will not stop until there is a cure, and it's a message that is resonant with my friends on the PD Avengers. This is a group I founded on the belief that the Parkinson Community has been silent for too long.
The PD Avengers believe…
We believe we have been too silent for too long. That we must become a loud, uncomfortable, ever-present voice demanding change in how people view and treat PD.
We believe every person living with PD should have equitable access to the therapies & resources that positively impact Parkinson’s symptoms
We believe by uniting our global voices, we will be impossible to ignore any longer
We believe Parkinson’s can be eliminated through research, and prevention. We must demand that greater resources be made available and greater urgency be placed on stopping the disease and eliminating man-made triggers that cause it.
We believe ending Parkinson’s is an achievable and worthy mission.
Learn more about the PD Avengers, we'll be walking with you on September 12.
