Parkinson Canada SuperWalk:
The Movement.

One thing constant in the Parkinson’s journey is change. It impacts everyone differently and effects entire families who must cope with things being outside of their control. If you or someone you know has Parkinson’s this is something you know well, and you don’t let obstacles stand in your way. You adapt, and we adapt with you, so that together we will not stop until there is a cure for Parkinson’s No Matter What.

This year, we call on you to walk with the Parkinson Community in September.

The 2020 realities of Covid-19 across Canada have made it clear that large scale, coordinated public gatherings cannot be hosted this September. The perseverance of the Parkinson Community has made it clearer still that we will not let obstacles stand in our way. It’s not where you walk. It’s why you walk. We walk together on the path to a world without Parkinson’s: No Matter What.

Here’s what you can expect this September:

September

  • A unified, live national opening ceremony on at 11AM ET on Saturday, September 12.
  • A Walk in a Box for each family, team and individual that requires one. Digital Tools are available to registered walkers now, and Physical Tools will be sent to those who request them.
  • A celebration of the same collective impact across the country

SuperWalk: The Movement continues

Overall Goal

  • Staying active is the key to living well with Parkinson's and to a healthy lifestyle generally. This summer, you can participate in Parkinson Canada SuperWalk: The Movement, with a goal of encouraging 150 minutes of activity in whatever form that takes for you. Throughout the summer, participants like you have taken part in specific challenges with new activity resources to support this goal.

August

  • A 100,000 step challenge for 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s.

One thing that is constant in the journey with Parkinson's is change. Our community walk details are unclear at this time. We know that they will be changing. One thing we are certain that won’t change is that people affected by Parkinson’s still benefit from support, education, advocacy and guidance on how to navigate Parkinson’s, and research to one day prevent it.

Overall Goal

  • We know that staying active is the key to living well with Parkinson's and to a healthy lifestyle generally. This summer, we're launching Parkinson Canada SuperWalk: The Movement, with a goal of encouraging 150 minutes of activity in whatever form that takes for you. Throughout the summer, we'll be launching specific challenges with new activity resources to support this goal.

May

  • A predictive exercise challenge.Set a time for a 1km walk; a 5km run; or the length of your local SuperWalk and work to meet that time over the course of the month (and summer). Walking not your thing? How about challenging yourself to do a certain number of crunches in an hour; set a target for how long you can hold a stretch, or simply time your efforts dusting the house.
  • An exclusive Town Hall with our new CEO, Dr. Karen Lee for all registered participants.
  • A prize draw for everyone who has completed the exercise.
  • View our May Campaign Resources and enter the challenge

June

  • The chance to dance. We’ve partnered with our colleagues at Canada’s National Ballet School as part of the Dancing for Parkinson’s Network Canada for years. Now, we bring their resources to you. Take part in dance-based exercises and learn easy, choreographed routines with options for youth, seniors, and everyone in between. Use this as an opportunity to stay active, and if you’d like you can share yourself dancing as part of a collective performance.
  • An exclusive Town Hall with a Parkinson Canada funded researcher for all registered participants.
  • A prize draw for anyone who has completed the exercise.

July

  • Live and recorded exercise classes to support your 150 minutes of exercise.. Our very own SuperWalk team member Lance Letain has weekly exercise classes for Canadians with Parkinson’s and Carepartners aimed at getting CSEP’s recommended 150 minutes of physical activity per week. We also have recorded PWR moves sessions and we’ll share relevant resources for all audiences with an eye toward moving together.
  • An exclusive Town Hall with another Parkinson Canada funded researcher for all registered participants.
  • A prize draw for anyone who has completed the exercise.

August

  • A 100,000 step challenge for 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s. Set your own time frame, and walk with all participants on the path to a world without Parkinson’s.
  • Receiving all the tools you need to participate in a relevant, local walk. Either at your own home, in your neighbourhood, or otherwise.
  • An exclusive Town Hall with a top-secret special guest.
  • A prize draw for a Deluxe Walk in a Box kit to support the BEST SuperWalk experience for one lucky winner.
