I am living with Parkinson’s Disease and, like many with PD, I don’t know what the future will hold. How fast will this unpredictable and varied condition progress? How will this impact my family? Despite the uncertainty, I am committed to living to the fullest and enjoying what each day has to bring and taking on fun challenges as they arise.
This is one of those things! Through an unexpected series of coincidences, I will be in the Toronto area in time to take part in the Growling Beaver - a biking fundraiser to raise money for Parkinson Canada. How can I turn down a chance to do a few of my favourite things...ride a bike, be outside in beautiful places, support Parkinson Canada's important work and convince my cousin to join me on a crazy road trip to Collingwood!
I am not alone, more than 100,000 Canadians live with Parkinson's, a number expected to increase substantially in the coming years, with 30 Canadians diagnosed each day.
Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological disorder in the world. In the brain, nerves exchange signals through dopamine, a chemical that controls movement. Parkinson's symptoms occur when cells that produce dopamine die. Currently, there is no cure, and the need is only increasing. By 2031, the number of people living with Parkinson's in Canada will more than double. The support you provide makes a positive impact: improving the quality of life for people living with Parkinson's disease as well as finding a cure.
Your donation helps to contribute to Parkinson Canada's work towards ensuring that a full, vibrant life is still possible for over 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson's.
Thanks for your support!
