Welcome to My Personal Page
On Saturday, September 7th, 2019 I will join more than 14,000 Canadians who will take part in the Parkinson SuperWalk. Together we raise funds for education and support services, not only for people with Parkinson's, but also for their caregivers and family members in communities across Canada. This annual event also raises funds for research into the causes of Parkinson's, better treatments and one day, for a cure.
I have now had Parkinson's Disease for more than 20 years, the last 4 of which I have been the beneficiary of a recent medical technique for treating Parkinson's, the Duodopa pump, providing me with a quality of life that I had almost forgotten. Duodopa is a gel containing the necessary medication (levadopa/carbidopa) which is administered directly into the small intestine by measured doses through a tube inserted into the abdomen. It is delivered continuously (every 35 seconds) throughout the day. It has been life-changing for me allowing me more mobility, and the energy and desire to be more involved in life again. Unfortunately I have had to return to the use of pills every 2 hours for a couple of months or so due to a problem with the administration site in my abdomen. I'm hoping that a new abdominal site will be made in the fall, once the old site is fully healed, so I can resume the use of the pump. In the meantime I deal with the 'off' and 'on' times that the majority of Parkinsonians endure on the oral medications. We keep hoping that even better treatments will become available for the thousands of us who continue to live with Parkinson's Disease.
Last year I was thrilled to have the support of many friends and relatives who donated more than $4,000 on my behalf for Parkinson Superwalk for awareness, research for a cure, education and support. When you sponsor me, you bring us closer to this year's goal of $3 million. Every dollar means new hope. Thank you!
