Support [Penny and Vernon] for Parkinson SuperWalk
Thanks for taking a look at our personal page.
This September, Vernon and I will be fund-raising and participating in Superwalk for the second time. We are hoping we can achieve the same level of support as last year, or perhaps even notch it up a bit.
As most of you know, we spend most of our time at the cottage from the spring through to the fall. As a result we never participated in Superwalk when we lived in Toronto. When we moved to Ottawa we decided to participate in a support group in Cornwall, Ontario, a city located mid-way between Ottawa and Saint Anicet. And then last year we took part in Superwalk for the first time. It was a truly moving experience for us. We set a goal of $3,000 and within a month exceeded that goal, raising just a bit more than $6,000. We were simply overwhelmed at the support given us by our friends and family.
So this year we are fund-raising once again. We are hoping to match the $6,000.00 we raised last year. It will be a daunting task as we are starting the process two weeks later than last year. July and early August were incredibly hectic with cottage visitors and medical appointments. The visits brought pleasure to our life and the medical appointments all went well.
The picture included above are from last year. All of our donners live outside Cornwall. so we really were not expecting people to join us on the walk. Despite that, last year four hearty souls joined us, three from the West Island and one from Toronto. This year it looks like that number will be three West Islanders and two Torontonians. If any others can joiin us, please do so. The walk is not demanding and the event is uplifting.
Our reasons for participating in Superwalk are quite simple. Parkinson Canada has been a major source of support for us. We value the work they do and want to give back. Superwalk lets us do that. Your donation fuels better health outcomes for Canadians living with Parkinson's today, and supports the Parkinson Canada Research Program to find the next big breakthrough in treatment.
All you need to do now is click the DONATE NOW button on the right hand side of the page, above the progress meter and achievements. Parkinson Canada will immediately acknowledge your donation and provide you with a tax receipt.
Thanks for your past support and for being with us on this venture. We'll keep you posted on how we make out with our ambitious goal.
