Support Sally for Parkinson SuperWalk
Everyday Heroes. Extraordinary Hope.
Thanks for taking a look at my personal page. This September, I’m joining everyday heroes from communities across Canada as part of Parkinson SuperWalk. I’d like to tell you why, and what your donation will do.
I am one of the lucky ones because my disease has advanced more slowly than for many of my peers in the 14 years since I was diagnosed. I still look fairly ‘normal’, I don’t need a cane or a walker, I can drive, I can still function much as I used to for a good part of every day. But, and I don’t like to focus on this part, I sure wish I could work as hard and think as clearly as I used to, be steady on my feet, and not have to live with the knowledge that I’ll be more and more dependant on others as time goes on.
I credit my good fortune to luck but also to a positive attitude and exercise. I am blessed by a wonderful supportive family and good friends. Parkinson’s Canada has provided me with fantastic resources to keep myself as active and healthy as I can be and through it I have met the most wonderful people – people who work and volunteer to help those of us coping with PD and people from all walks of life dealing with PD themselves.
Ground-breaking work done by researchers supported by Parkinson’s Canada has added immensely to the knowledge of the doctors and therapists who advise me and has given me hope that I, and the more than 100,000 others in Canada that share this disease, will have drugs and therapies that will help us better manage the disease in the future and that our PD may even be stopped in its tracks.
