Welcome to Cindy and Garry's Personal Page
This September Garry and I will again join with more than 14,000 Canadians who take part in the Parkinson SuperWalk, something we have been doing for approx 18-19 years (we’ve lost count!). While the walk this year will be a virtual one because of Covid-19, we are still excited to participate by watching the start of the walk online, then taking a short walk with our family near our home. By working together virtually, we continue to help raise funds for education and support services for people with Parkinson's and also for their caregivers and family members in communities across Canada. Funds raised also continue to support much needed research and awareness. We appreciate every dollar donated!
Garry was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease more than 22 years ago, just before his 40th birthday. The medical advances achieved to help people with Parkinson's have provided Garry with a better quality of life. Deep Brain Stimulation surgery (DBS) 9 years ago enabled him to get back on his feet so that he was able to participate in things like the Parkinson's Superwalk, which we have been participating in since the early 2000’s. The DBS has allowed Garry to continue to remain somewhat active, and be able to do some gardening and help with small jobs in our yard and around the house which he so enjoys! Garry has also participated in numerous research studies over the years in Canada and in the U.S. While his Parkinsons does continue to progress, and mobility is once again becoming difficult, we remain hopeful that funds raised through this walk continue to support important research that will hopefully some day find a cure!
Thank you all for your support! It means so much to both of us!
