Support Sarah for Parkinson SuperWalk
I didn't know this until today, but more than 25 Canadians are diagnosed with Parkinson's every day; more than one person every hour. By 2031, the number of people living with Parkinson’s in Canada will more than double. I am participating in SuperWalk to fund the increasing need for support, advocacy and research.
As most of you know, my mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years ago. She now is no longer able to work, and faces some challenges throughout the day, but she is strong and lives her life to the fullest extent of her ability. She does what she can, when she can, and she rests when she needs a break. She will never hesitate to fix something for someone or do something for anyone. She is a strong woman who is learning to not let Parkinson's define her. She is the same person I have known and loved my whole life, and not even Parkinson's can change that.
I however, would be lying if I said there weren't days where we wish she had never gotten Parkinson's. There are days that she struggles, and it makes me sad. There are days when she gets frustrated and tells me she wishes she never had Parkinson's.
I have become one of my mom's biggest supports and aids. I want nothing more then to see a cure for Parkinson's, and not just the ability to prevent it from happening, but better and more effective treatments to help those already diagnosed with Parkinson's, because they really need it too. I am a huge advocate for my mom, her health and her wellbeing.
While I am asking you to donate for me as a walker, and asking you to donate for my team.. this isn't really about me. I am asking for you to donate to Parkinson's Canada to help my mom, to support her and to support and help others. I am asking you to donate so that we can lower the number of people diagnosed each year and increase the number of treatment options for those who have Parkinsons.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you,
Sarah
