Support [NAME] for Parkinson SuperWalk
Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 49 years old. Eight years ago, my family’s plans and expectations were changed, and continue to change, as we learn about living with Parkinson’ s Disease. I have the disease but my family lives with the affects as much as I do.
Three years ago, I was forced to stop working due to the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, my first major life altering affect of Parkinson’s Disease. Having to give up my career was like having to give up part of myself, and my identity, to this disease.
However, the disease has introduced me to a new community, as 4 years ago I joined a Parkinson’s specific boxing program at Boxing 4 Health. At the Boxing 4 Health gym, a group of people with similar challenges gather to fight (pun intended) the disease, under the guidance and with the support of the great staff at Boxing 4 Health.
The members of Boxing 4 Health have come together for the last 3 years and raised money for the Parkinson’s SuperWalk to support for the increasing need for support services, education, advocacy and research. Last year our team raise more than $73,000, making us the highest fundraising team in Canada.
While we know this year will be our most challenging for fundraising, we are use to dealing and overcoming new challenges. With your help we can again raise an incredible amount of money to ensure Parkinson Canada is there for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today by funding research into better treatments and one day, a cure.
