Support Sarah Jane Batten for Parkinson SuperWalk
No Matter What.
On Saturday September 12, I’m joining everyday heroes from communities across Canada as part of Parkinson Canada SuperWalk. I will be walking with my team of fellow fighters from the Parkinsons Boxing 4 Health gym in Ottawa, whether as one group or as several smaller groups as defined then by the Covid-19 status.
For the last four years since my diagnosis I have been participating 3 times a week in this Parkinsons specific exercise program. Since the lock down this has switched to Zoom home classes which continue in addition to the gym reopening recently for smaller classes. We are lucky to have this program and have developed a close community and support each other through our journey. Parkinson Canada has also been very active in promoting home exercise in this time by providing increased access to online exercise classes of several categories and thus reducing isolation of those living with Parkinsons during lock down.Exercise, community and positive attitude are all essential components of living well with Parkinsons in addition to medication.
More than 25 Canadians are diagnosed with Parkinson's every day; more than one person every hour. By 2031, the number of people living with Parkinson’s in Canada will more than double. I am participating in SuperWalk to fund the increasing need for support, advocacy and research.
Your donation fuels better health outcomes for Canadians living with Parkinson's today, and it supports the Parkinson Canada Research Program which works with Canada's brightest researchers to find the next big breakthroughs in treatment. This is why I'm asking for your support today.
Help me ensure Parkinson Canada is there for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today – while funding research into better treatments and one day, a cure.
