Welcome to My Personal Page
This September I will join thousands of Canadians who take part Parkinson SuperWalk. Together we raise funds for education and support services, not only for people with Parkinson's, but also for their caregivers and family members in communities across Canada. This annual event also raises funds for research into the causes of Parkinson's, better treatments and one day, a cure. When you walk with me or sponsor me, you bring us closer to this year's goal. Every dollar means new hope.
Parkinson’s has always been a big part of my life, my mother (Connie MacMillan) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when I was still very young and I lost my grandfather (Kenneth MacMillan Senior) to Parkinson’s in the 90’s. I have seen first hand the struggles that this disease brings to those impacted and their family’s. From tremors to forgetfulness and everything in-between I have watched one of the strongest women I know reach out to take my arm when she can quite manage a short walk or getting up from a chair. I have been on the side lines, not once but twice, as my mother had neurological implant for deep brain stimulation in order to help manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s. I have seen my mother so filled with so much joy at the sight of all of her sisters, brother, and grandkids enjoying a week away on vacation that she was able to move around with out the assistance of her cane.
My Mother once thought that she might not live long enough to ever meet her grandchildren, and now she has 6 beautiful grandchildren to enjoy. This might not have been possible with out the advancements and breakthroughs in Parkinson’s research.
Thank you for your support, together we can make a difference
Scott MacMillan
