It has been a little over a year since I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Since that time, my symptoms have progressed slowly. For those who are acquainted with PD, you will know that it much more than just a movement disorder. Fortunately, it has not impaired, (or improved), my ability to play squash or piano!
In my role as a support group facilitator for Parkinson Canada. I have met many others having much more difficulty than I have. It has also made me aware of just how common PD is.
Unfortunately, PD remains a complex, chronic and progressive illness without a clear cut cause (there may be many), and lacking a reliable screening or diagnostic test. While there are medications and surgical procedures that provide symptomatic relief, there remains nothing that slows or halts the progression of the disease.
So this year, I am hoping you will help me raise funds for Parkinson Canada at their Superwalk. This will help fund their efforts in education, research, advocacy and support.
I realize how many important causes, medical and otherwise, there are out there. Thank you for considering Parkinson Canada.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
