Twelve years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 48 years old. Twelve years ago, my family’s plans and expectations for our future were changed, and continue to change, as we learn about living with Parkinson’ s Disease.
Now 12 years have gone by, and I am happy to report that I have indeed had 12 good years and plan on many more. That is not to say my life is without challenges.
Parkinson’s has introduced me to a new community, I joined a Parkinson’s specific boxing program at Boxing 4 Health. At the Boxing 4 Health gym, a group of people with similar challenges gather to fight (pun intended) the disease, under the guidance and with the support of the great staff at Boxing 4 Health.
The members of Boxing 4 Health have come together for the last 7 years and raised money for the Parkinson’s SuperWalk to support for the increasing need for support services, education, advocacy and research. Last year our team was the highest fundraising team in Canada for the 5th year in a row, raising a record $121,000. In the 7 years that we have participated we have raised approximately $560,000.
With your help we can again raise an incredible amount of money to ensure Parkinson Canada is there for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today by funding research into better treatments and one day, a cure.
Every dollar means new hope. Thank you!
