Again this year, I'm walking the SuperWalk to raise money for Parkinson Canada. I fully support Parkinson Canada’s mission to transform the lives of people living with Parkinson's and to fund critical research. Parkinson Canada also provides information and support and advocates for improved health care outcomes for people living with Parkinson's in Canada.
With your donations in 2023, Parkinson Canada moved the yard stick towards achieving its goals. You can see these achievements by navigating to the impact report at: https://www.impact.parkinson.ca/
This year is my 12th year since diagnosis of young onset Parkinson’s. My wife, Robynne, and I are very thankful for the drug therapies, support groups and exercise programs that have helped us along the way. Without organizations like Parkinson Canada, we would be living a much lower quality of life.
I am a person of action and so is Robynne. Ever since my General Physician said those few words, "you have Parkinson's" we have immersed ourselves in information about the disease. We continue to take positive steps along the way while grieving the losses. My parents, our two children, many friends and business colleagues have financially and otherwise supported us these last 12 years. We are eternally grateful for the $34,200 raised last year and for the $123,500 that has been raised over the past 8 years.
Early on I was appointed to Board of the Parkinson's Society of Eastern Ontario (PSEO) and in 2016 I helped the amalgamation of the PSEO with 6 other Canadian based Parkinson's organizations into the new national organization, Parkinson Canada. In June of 2022, I was appointed to the Parkinson Canada Board of Directors and look forward to helping Parkinson Canada in achieving its’ strategic plan. This giving back adds meaning to my life and a way for me to continue to apply my skills and talents since needing to step back from a career I enjoyed.
I believe there will be a cure for this progressive disease one day. Please support my SuperWalk fundraiser and help Parkinson Canada achieve an immeasurable impact through the research being done, the services being offered, and the families like mine being helped every day.
