Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' - We're Rollin' Right Along
It’s still a steep hill to climb, one dollar at a time, as we keep rolling right along in the hopes of finding the cure for Parkinson Disease. It was five years ago when I was first diagnosed with this disease. Sure, I have aged a little, but I’m happy to report a very gradual progression of my Parkinsons. I am 83 years old and I am very happy with everything I can still do; nightly walks, gardening, family time at the cottage, always up for a coffee or breakfast with longtime lacrosse pals. I am extremely blessed and happy with all I have and can do.
Over the past four years, after I came to terms with having Parkinsons, I joined a number of very inspirational people with the same diagnosis, participating in the annual SuperWalk Fund Raiser. My first year participating I was overwhelmed with the number of people and the amounts donated to my campaign. $30,000.00 was raised that first year, giving me the title of Top Fundraiser across Canada. Over the following three years I continued to have great success in raising funds. To date, through your kind donations my fundraising is over $60,000.00. This year my aim is to raise another $10,000.00. As you are well aware research, patient care and support has a very large price tag, so these fund raising events are crucial to the 125,000 Canadians who have been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. As long as I am able I will continue to roll right along participating in the yearly SuperWalk Campaigns. Perhaps some year I will hit the $100,00.00 mark.
I want to close with a heartfelt thank you. You may be my family, my friend, a neighbour, an acquaintance, a volunteer, someone who wants to help, so it is to each and everyone of you I say THANK YOU. I could not do this without you.
God Bless,
Ted Higgins
