Fundraising Toolbox

Planning a community fundraising event is an excellent way to create awareness and support for a cause near to you. Thank you for your commitment! Your event and the funds you raise are helping to create a better life and a brighter future for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today; and a world without Parkinson’s tomorrow.

The easiest and most cost effective way to fundraise is to register and collect donations online. In addition, your online donors will receive their tax receipt immediately.

Sponsor yourself to get started. When your friends and family see your donation and commitment, they will be more willing to match or surpass your donation amount.

Asking for Donations

Don’t underestimate the power of “word-of-mouth”. Once you get one person interested in your event, who knows who they may inspire to donate!

Ask, ask, ask! There are many ways to ask for donations. Send a letter, make a phone call, send an email or post to your friends on Facebook, Twitter or other social media sites. Remember to always include the link to your event page.

Try approaching local businesses in your area to see if they will sponsor you. Don’t be shy about asking people you hire for services throughout the year, such as your dentist, dog walker or lawn care company!

Don’t forget to follow up! If someone hasn’t sponsored you, send them a reminder. The Participant Center makes this fast and easy. People are busy and they may have missed your first request.

Always remember to thank your donors. Regularly send emails to people who have supported you or your event to thank them and let them know how much money you raised. This will help keep everyone engaged in your experience and encourage them to do more. After your event has taken place, let them know how much they helped to raise. They’ll be proud to make a difference!

Matching Gifts

Many companies have matching gifts programs, in which they will match a donation made by an employee, retired employee or even volunteers. Check with your company’s human resource department and ask your friends and family if their employer has a matching gift program as well. It’s an easy way to double your impact!
