Yoga for Parkinson's
Parkinson's disease is a neuro-degenerative disease that effects
movement, movement is normally controlled by something called Dopamine, a
chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain.
When the cells no longer produce Dopamine then symptoms of Parkinson's disease
appears. There are many different symptoms and everyone is effected
differently, the most common symptoms are tremors, rigidity of the muscles,
impaired balance, slowness and stiffness.
My dad, Joachim Blum was diagnosed
over 10 years ago with Parkinson's disease, although he is a positive, active
person he still struggles with the effects of Parkinsons daily.
Six years ago he decided to join me in practising Yoga at studio BLISS Ann
Green Yoga and the benefits of movement and living an active lifestyle have
significantly helped slow the progression of this disease. Many people
including myself have noticed the difference in my dad physically before and
after a yoga class and compared to six years ago, because of this improvement
and obvious benefits we decided to do a Fundraiser consisting of a yoga class
taught graciously by Ann Green owner of Bliss studio in Barrie followed by a
BBQ.
I am so excited for this event and hope everyone can attend and please
bring as many people as you'd like. It is helpful for us to know how many
people will be attending roughly so we can organize the BBQ to our best
ability.
Please RSVP via facebook, via e-mail at lynetteblum@hotmail.com or telephone 7052417336, if you are
unable to attend donations are welcome through this online site or you can
contact myself or my dad and we can make arrangements. Thank you in advance it means
a lot to our family for the support and love we are shown every year!
